Single digit actions

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The Single Digit Actions (SDA) property page displays the SDA menu currently assigned to the mailbox, and allows you to change which menu template is assigned. There can be only one SDA menu assigned to the mailbox at a time.

To change the SDA on a schedule, you must use a scheduled event template (see the Scheduled Events property page).  The figure below shows an example SDA property page configured to use a Custom SDA template.

Use the drop-down box at the top to change the assigned template. Any choice other than Custom is a global template and you will not be able to edit it here (but will be able to view its settings).  The Custom template exists only in this mailbox and therefore can be edited; however, you will not be able to use it for any other mailbox.  Most mailboxes are configured to use the Standard SDA template by default, which is configured the same as the default settings for the Custom template as shown in the figure above.

Setting

Description

0-9

Each numeric DTMF digit can be used either to invoke a specific menu action or as the first digit of an extension number.  There are two settings for each digit:

The Action setting defines the action to take if it is the only digit dialed by the caller. You can either select an action from the selection box or type it in manually.
The SD setting (short for Single Digit) is a checkbox which, if checked, causes the system to take the associated action immediately if that key is the first digit pressed by the caller. This prevents callers from dialing any extension that starts with this digit.

*, #, A-D

These DTMF digits cannot be used to dial extension numbers and therefore are always acted upon immediately.

You can either select an action from the selection box or type it in manually.

No Input

Select the action to take if the caller does not press any DTMF digit within the time allotted.

You can either select an action from the selection box or type it in manually.

Fax Freq

Select the action to take if a fax tone is detected.

You can either select an action from the selection box or type it in manually.

You must have supported fax hardware installed, fax support enabled in the license, and the COS must be configured to enable fax detection in the mailbox.

Fax is not supported on SIP-enabled systems.

Restrict all to single digit

Select this option to restrict the caller to pressing only one digit. Essentially, this just checks all the individual SD boxes.

Normally, the system allows the caller to enter multiple DTMF within a specified interval of time, in order to allow the caller to dial an extension number.  In this scenario, the assigned action is only taken if the caller only presses a single digit, or if the caller presses the # key or the star key.

When this box is checked, the system will act immediately as soon as the caller presses any DTMF digit.

This will effectively prevent the caller from directly dialing any extension number.

Disable translation for transfers

Check this box to prevent extensions dialed by callers from being processed through the translation table.

Normally, any extension dialed in an SDA is run through the translation table.  DV2000/DV4 is a mailbox-based system and therefore assumes the caller is dialing a mailbox number to transfer to, not an extension.  Therefore, if a mailbox's extension number differs from the mailbox number, translation is required to complete the transfer.

By default, this option is disabled.

Max DTMF

Set the maximum number of digits a caller may enter.

The value you choose should reflect the longest valid extension number.  So if your system has both 3- and 4-digit extensions, set this value to no less than 4 digits.

For any digit where the SD box is checked, this value is ignored; the action will be taken as soon as the digit is pressed.  If Restrict all to single digit is enabled, this setting is ignored in all cases.

The default value is 99 digits.

Wait for input

Set the number of seconds to wait for input from the caller after the greeting has finished playing.

The system processes each DTMF digit from the caller one at a time, so this value applies to each keypress.  That is, if this value is set to 3 seconds, the system will wait for input for up to 3 seconds after the greeting ends.  If the caller presses a digit (and the SD box is not checked), then it will wait an additional 3 seconds for another digit.  This will repeat until either the caller does not press a key within 3 seconds or the caller enters the maximum number of DTMF allowed.

The default value is 3 seconds.

As editing the Custom SDA is in all other ways identical to editing a global SDA template, please refer to the single digit actions section under Template Management for detailed instructions.
