Outbound port access

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The Outbound Port Access tab, shown below, allows you to specify which port(s) this location should use for the various outdialing functions, as well as the trunk access code to use in each case (to acquire an outside line).

SYS0041

There are three main sections on this tab:

MWI—specifies the values used by the system when sending MWI notifications (to turn message lights on or off).
Notifications—specifies the values used by the system when outdialing for any other notification type (e.g., pager notification and wakeup calls).
Fax Delivery—specifies the values used by the system for outbound faxing. Only the trunk access code is used; the port selection checkboxes are ignored.

Each section has two parts:

Voice/Fax ports—check the box(es) to indicate which voice port(s) the system can use when performing the given action.  If you have more than eight ports, use the tabs to access the higher port numbers (up to 32).  You can check multiple ports for the same action.  You can also use the same port for both MWI and Notifications.
Trunk access number—specifies the digit, or string of digits, that must be dialed first to access an outside line.  A comma may be included to represent a pause.

It is generally recommended that you select the last port(s) in the system for outdialing, especially if the voice mail ports on your switch are configured to use a linear hunt group.  This can help reduce the incidence of glare, when an incoming call collides with an outbound call being initiated on the same line.  For example, on a 4-port system, use port 4 for notifications and MWI.

Note: On hospitality systems using the wakeup call feature, you will probably want to enable multiple notification ports to better handle the cases where multiple guests schedule a wakeup call for the same time.
