Using a serial data-tap

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

This feature is largely deprecated and is provided for backward compatibility.

In rare cases, a site will have a serial connection between the PMS and the PBX and for whatever reason will not be able to support a separate serial connection between the PMS and the DV2000/DV4.  In such a case, the technician may elect to create a spliced serial cable that connects to the PMS at one end and has a connection to the PBX and a connection to the VMS at the other end.

Note: How to create a spliced serial cable is beyond the scope of this manual.

The idea is that the VMS will passively "listen in" on the communication between the PMS and the PBX, and will update its database for guest mailboxes accordingly, without ever sending any data over the link at all.  This setting exists to support such a connection.  When enabled, the VMS will never respond to anything it receives from the PMS, nor will it ever send any packets of its own (such as maid status or message count packets).

To enable (or disable) having the hospitality server request a database swap at startup, follow these steps:

1.  Using Activity Monitor, stop the voice mail service.

5.  In the section Other, check the Data tap (listen only) box to enable the feature (or uncheck it to disable the feature).

6.  Click Apply to save the setting without closing the dialog.

7.  If you are finished configuring hospitality settings, click OK to save and close the dialog.

8.  Once you are finished with all configuration changes, close System Configuration.

9.  Using Activity Monitor, restart the voice mail service.
