Configure the wakeup call message

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

With the default configuration, the wakeup call will simply play a prompt that says: This is your scheduled wakeup call.  However, the message can be configured in a number of ways:

To state the room number first
To play a different, custom prompt
To state the scheduled time of the call after the initial message
To play a second custom message at the end

To configure the wakeup message settings, follow these steps:

1.  Run the Mailbox Administration application and select Templates | Class of Service. It is not necessary to stop the voice mail service.

2.  Click on the Guest COS in the list and then click Edit.

3.  Select the Wakeup Calls property page.

4. Check the Say room number box if you want the system to say Room nnn (where nnn is the guest mailbox number) before playing the rest of the message.

5. Check the Say the scheduled time of the wakeup call box if you want the system to state the scheduled time after it plays the initial message.  Assuming the default message prompt and a scheduled time of 7:30 a.m., this would result in something like: This is your scheduled wakeup call, for 7:30 a.m.

Note: This setting is also applicable when the call destination is the operator instead of the guest.  In that case, it will state the time the wakeup was scheduled for after it plays the normal message that a wakeup was scheduled for room nnn (where nnn is the guest mailbox number).

6. Select the Initial message prompt ID using the drop-down list box.  The option Use default means it will play prompt 1668, which has the default recording: This is your scheduled wakeup call.  Otherwise, you can select a custom prompt in the range 5000 to 5999.  None of these prompts exist by default; if you select a custom prompt number, you will have to record the prompt yourself.
7. Select the Final message prompt ID using the drop-down list box.  The option Use default means it will play prompt 1240, which has no default recording.  You may either elect to record this prompt or assign a custom prompt in the range 5000 to 5999.  Either way, you will need to record the prompt yourself.

Note: You can record both standard and custom prompts over the phone using the administrator telephony interface described in the Re-Record Hospitality Prompts section.  If you wish to professionally record the custom prompt(s) instead, refer to the section Professionally Record Prompts.  Either way, you will need to note the prompt number(s) you have chosen, as the prompt number is used as the filename for the actual recording.

8. Finally, set the Play message value to indicate how many times to play the message. The valid range is from 1 to 9 times.  The default value of 1 means the entire message sequence is played exactly one time and then the system will hang up (or wait for a DTMF keypress, if the snooze feature is enabled).  A higher value means the entire sequence will repeat one or more times before the VMS disconnects (or waits for a keypress).
9. Click Save to save your changes and close the dialog.
10. If you are finished with Mailbox Administration, you may close it now.

Message Sequence Examples

If all options described above have been enabled, then a wakeup call to the guest will play the message sequence as follows (the snooze feature is assumed to be disabled):

1. State the room number
2. Play the initial message
3. State the scheduled wakeup time
4. Play the final message

For example, assume a wakeup call with the following conditions:

Room

Wakeup Time

Initial Message

Final Message

1101

7:30 a.m.

Use Default (This is your scheduled wakeup call.)

Use Default (no recording)

Assuming only the default configuration for the message options, the full message would be:

This is your scheduled wakeup call.

Assuming the same default settings, but with the final message prompt recorded to say Thank you for staying at ACME Hotel:

This is your scheduled wakeup call.  Thank you for staying at ACME Hotel.

Assuming that all message options are enabled, with the final message recording from the previous example:

Room 1101.  This is your scheduled wakeup call, for 7:30 a.m.  Thank you for staying at ACME Hotel.
